Definition
PageRank is a proprietary algorithm used by Google to determine a site's relative worth or authoritativeness on the web.
PageRank is also considered a measure of a site's link popularity (see the Wikipedia entry on PageRank for more information.
The measurement was developed early in Google's history as a way of determining a site's importance on the web. When all other ranking factors were considered PageRank was the final multiplier in determining rankings.
In other words, between two sites of equal value when considering other factors, the site with the higher PageRank value would be ranked the highest.
